INTRODUCTION :

Greenhouses are used in many tropical regions of the world for the production of vegetable/flower/fruit crops. The primary reasons for protected cultivation in the tropics are for pest exclusion, protection from extreme solar radiation, and heavy rain / wind protection. These are somewhat different primary reasons than for greenhouses in temperate zones where controlling temperature extremes are the primary factors in greenhouse construction.

Because tropical greenhouses are used for different reasons than temperate ones, their design and construction is also different. An effective design uses insect netting for side walls and a passively ventilated polyethylene or polycarbonate panel roof. In many developing countries, a need exists for a low-cost greenhouse, using locally available materials where possible.

The definition of “tropical” used here is an area that has lowest temperatures above 0 o C. The technical definition of “tropics” is any location between 23o N and 23o S latitudes. However, for the purposes of greenhouse design, the need for improved ventilation, rain protection, and insect exclusion are the primary factors.



GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS :

FOUNDATIONS :



Foundation pipes around 2/2.5/3 mm thickness 1200 mm length deformed at the lower ends to prevent its release from the cement cube and to strengthen connection to the pillars.


The foundation hole has a minimum 400 mm diameter with a minimum depth of around 1000 mm.

The upper part of foundation pipe protrudes 300 mm above ground level and 900 mm of pipe must lock inside the hole.

The distance between foundations is 5 meter on the gutter front and 5 meter on the gable front depending on configrutation as per site.



PILLARS :



All the outer pillars in the structure are 3" (90mm) diameter, 2mm thickness and hot galvanized with zinc 275 gr/m2.

All the internal pillars are 2.5" (75mm) diameter, 2mm thick.

The height of the pillars is 3, 4, 5 or 6.5 meters.

Pillars are locked with bottom chord of 2" (60mm) dia, 2mm thick.

The pillars to the main foundation are locked with galvanized nuts and bolts.



ARCHES :

The arches of the structure are made of hot galvanized steel pipes of 2" (60mm) diameter and 2 mm thickness.

Distance between arches ia 4 to 5 meters.

The structure and size of the arches differ from one another depending upon different type of model heights and vents.

The role of arches allows better extentions of the coverings and prevents water accumulations on the top.

The top vent is open in these structures for better air circulations during summer months and humid nights.



BALCONIES :

The Structure is reinforced at its width by a diagnol wall ( balcony ) made of 2.5" (75mm) dia pipe.

The distance between the balcony foundation and main piller is from 2-3 meter.

The balcony galleries are used as working corridors & helps deviate high winds



COVERING :

The polysheet covering and the side nets are connected to the structure by a locking profile of 31.5x14.7x1.5 mm made of aluminum or galvanized steel.

Profile is used in every  corner of the green house for same purpose of locking the Poly sheet & nets.

Profile has a shape of female profile and can hold around 3 layers of net or sheet coverings and three male springs.

Poly sheet of 200 micron five layer is covered on the top.



ENTRY ROOM :

An entry room is optional.

The standard size of entry room is around 3x5m or 5x10 m depending upon the model.

Entry Room consists of two set of Doors, outer Aluminium and inner door.

Entry room is covered with woven poly sheet.

The main purpose of entry room is for sanitation and for reducing chances for entry of insects and pests.

Further entry rooms in present time are used to manage the crops and tools a major utility.
